St Georges, Grenada

We’re here in St Georges, Grenada on Day 5 of our compulsory 14 day Quarantine and Day 2 of a National lock down. Thankfully, we have plenty of food and drink onboard, so have enough to see us through until our quarantine ends. After this, we’ll be able to go ashore for exercise, shopping and emergencies only. Those yachties that need to shop during the quarantine period need to phone or radio orders through to the stores or use the online shopping facility. It’s all a bit strange….and a little bit eerie! We are surrounded by boats, but very few have people aboard. Most are Dream Yacht Charter boats with others belonging to other charter companies. We’re not that far from land, but things are so quiet – not the usual sound of the traffic tooting their horns or buses with their music blaring as they wind through the streets. No Rum Runners doing tours or cruise ships on dock.

Today it has been announced that a further 6 cases of COVID 19 have been confirmed here, 5 of which had been in direct contact with Patient Zero, and the other sat within 6 feet of her on the Virgin Atlantic flight from UK. The Ministry of Health seem to acting fast and doing all they can to stop this from spreading any further….but they can only do that if people take heed of what they are being told about staying at home. It remains to be seen whether the locals here will take it more seriously than some people in the UK and other parts of the world. If this takes hold here, it will be absolutely devastating – their health system will most definitely not be able to cope.

We are pottering about with jobs on board, but not going mad! Having just finished 2 back to back charters a few days ago we are feeling a little weary and enjoying some down time. We had ( still have) mountains of laundry to do so are working our way through that whilst nursing the water maker which has had various issues over the last month or so. The cleaning has been done post charter and all freezers defrosted, cleaned and switched back on. Now the task of crossing off jobs from the ever growing β€œto do” list begins. Some are basic maintenance, some are upgrades, some much needed repairs and some just to make Imagination prettier. As we were so busy last season, many things were put on the back burner, so we are secretly thankful for this enforced time on board as it gives us time to catch up with ourselves a little bit.

Who knows what the next few weeks will bring, but we hope you all stay safe. Make the most of your lock down time….finish things you started and didn’t get a chance to see through to the end, cherish the time with loved ones who are in lock down with you and stay in regular touch with those you can’t see and spend time with. These are very strange times….but one day…don’t know when…..but one day…this will pass. Look after and be kind to yourselves πŸ™‚
